Ginger SOFRECO is recruiting an environmental Specialist t to join our Technical Assistance Team for the Jordan Water Sector Efficiency Project (JWSEP), financed by the World Bank, AFD, and GCFF, and implemented by the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ).
Our consortium has been awarded the contract, and the project will start shortly.

About the Project

Jordan faces extreme water scarcity, increasing demand, and climate-related pressures. The JWSEP aims to improve water service efficiency nationwide through:
• Sustainable Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction
• Improved energy efficiency
• Strengthened drought management systems
• Enhanced project management and institutional capacity

The Technical Assistance team will support WAJ, MWI, JVA, and the Water Companies across planning, procurement, monitoring, E&S compliance, and capacity building.

Key Responsibilities
• Conduct environmental screening and prepare or review ESMPs
• Monitor contractor compliance with ESMP, OHS and mitigation measures
• Perform field inspections, audits, and safety assessments
• Review monthly E&S reports and contribute to quarterly reporting
• Ensure alignment with Jordanian environmental laws and World Bank ESF
• Collaborate with WAJ, MWI, JVA, Water Companies, and World Bank teams
• Support training and capacity building in E&S management

Qualification

Qualifications Required

Mandatory requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental engineering, environmental sciences, or related field
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in:
– Environmental impact assessment
– Environmental management
– Occupational health and safety (OHS)
– Contractor management & safety supervision
– Environmental audits and site inspections
• Strong ability to conduct OHS and safety inspections, ensuring compliance with OSHA and international standards
• Extensive knowledge of Jordanian environmental regulations and World Bank environmental standards
• At least 5 years of experience with similar institutions, agencies, or donor-funded infrastructure projects
• Proven experience in preparation, implementation, and monitoring of World Bank–financed projects
• Excellent oral and written communication in Arabic and English
• Ability to work effectively with government institutions, project-affected people, international organizations, and technical bodies
• Strong computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to analyse environmental information, synthesize findings, and make informed decisions
• Commitment to continuous skills and knowledge development
