Project Context
Jordan is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world. The Jordan Water
Sector Efficiency Project (JWSEP), co-financed by the World Bank, the Agence
Française de Développement (AFD), and the Global Concessional Financing
Facility (GCFF), aims to strengthen the sustainability, efficiency, and
resilience of the country’s water services. The project is being implemented by
the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation
(MWI) between 2023 and 2028, with a total financing envelope of USD 300
million.

Position Summary
We are recruiting an Environment Specialist (Key Expert 10) to monitor and
advise on environmental aspects of the project, including compliance with
national and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities
• Review and supervise Environmental Management Plans (EMPs)
• Monitor contractor compliance with OHS and mitigation measures
• Coordinate environmental audits and reporting
• Train project staff on environmental safeguards

Working Conditions
• Duty station: Amman, with field travel as required
• Full-time presence expected throughout the project duration
• Consultant will be engaged through a consulting firm under a services
contract

Qualification
- A bachelor's degree or higher in environmental engineering or science or in related field.
- Holds a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in environmental impacts assessment, environmental management, occupational health and safety (OHS), safety management and management of contractors, environmental audit and inspection.
- Skill in performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA and safety standards.
- Extensive knowledge with relevant Jordanian environmental regulations, and World Bank environmental standards and other international institutions.
- Working experience with similar agencies, organizations and/or similar projects for at least 5 years.
- Experience in preparation, implementation, and monitoring of World Bank financed projects, analytical studies.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills in Arabic and English.
- Ability to work well with a range of stakeholders, including project-affected peoples, government officials, national and international organizations, development agencies, technical bodies, etc.
- Computer literate (including working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to synthesize and analyses information, and make clear, informed decisions.
- Continued updating of skills and experience.
