Sugarcane is a key cash crop for farmers in various region of Bangladesh and particularly in low-rainfall and low fertility areas such as Rajshani, Pabna, Kushtia, Jessore, Faridpur, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Bogra and Mymensingh. However, sugar production has declined resulting in significant losses. North Bengal Sugar Mill is an outdated sugar complex of 1,500 TCD with low agricultural and industrial performance.
To address this, the government launched a project to modernize NBSM, increase its capacity and make it profitable. Ginger SOFRECO was in charge of the agricultural action plan and the feasibility study for a new 2,000/2,500 TCD sugar plant with a refinery capable of producing 200/300 t/day and a cogeneration plant.
