Challenges and prospects
The energy transition: effectively incorporating renewable energies into the energy mix and networks
The rise of solar, wind and hydroelectric power is bringing about profound changes to electricity systems. However, energy sector players and policymakers are often ill-prepared to incorporate intermittent sources of production.
Institutional fragmentation, regulatory instability and limited operational capacities are major obstacles to the reforms needed to achieve this integration. Clear, consistent and robust governance is therefore essential for a successful energy transition.
