Technical assistance to review/revamp the existing pre-service teacher training curricula and bachelor-level degree programme at the University of Liberia ( 2021 - 2024 )
The project is part of the Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) initiative aimed at strengthening upper secondary education in Liberia (grades 10-12). It provides strategic support to the Liberian government to improve the quality of teacher training through several key actions. A gap analysis was conducted to review existing initial training programmes and identify areas for improvement. Based on this, a tailored curriculum review was carried out, accompanied by the development of tools and model syllabuses developed in consultation with the main beneficiaries. A professional development plan was also designed to meet the specific needs of the two universities involved in teacher training. Lastly, training sessions were organised for teacher training college staff to facilitate the adoption of the new programmes and teaching materials, thereby ensuring a sustainable improvement in teaching practices.
