The general objective of the mines component of the PAGOS (project to support sector-based governance) is to improve the governance of the mining sector.
This project provides technical assistance to the Government of Gabon in order to enhance/upgrade the geology & resources information system, contribute to integration into the Kimberley process, and develop a set of maps (a geological and geotechnical map of the cities of Libreville and Owendo, a map of ecologically sensitive zones). Additional activities will contribute to the:
- preparation of the Metallogenic Atlas for Gabon;
- capacity building of the mineralogical laboratory.

While the general objective of the VPA (Voluntary Partnership Agreement) is to help build and improve forest governance and the sustainable management of natural resources in the Republic of the Congo (and thus fight climate change by reducing GHG emissions, and limit biodiversity loss), the specific objective of the assignment of the Independent Auditor of the System is to audit the legality assurance system (LAS), identify gaps therein, evaluate the efficiency of corrective measures, and check the use of licences upon entry into the EU market.
The audit of the LAS must reassure operators and authorities of the fact that the FLEGT licences issued (resulting from the LAS) comply with the commitments made under the VPA and give the FLEGT licences delivered by the Congo, the credibility on which the entire FLEGT system is based.

The objective of the technical assistance (TA) is to contribute to the Climate Resilience Strategy of the Caribbean Development Bank and its Borrowing Member Countries by building in-house capacity, knowledge and skills in the field of climate change.
