As part of the framework of the First South-West Indian Ocean region Fisheries Governance and economic development programme, SOFRECO is implementing this very important participative study with fishery communities and in close collaboration with Governments officials. It includes: (i) a socio-economic evaluation (ii) implementation of a Quick Participatory Diagnostic in each of the priority and non-priority areas in order to identify the persons impacted by fishing restrictions and to determinate income-generating activities suitable for each community, and the type of persons impacted with special focus on gender issues (iii) the development of priority projects with communities and elaboration of business plans and manuals for implementation (iv) recommendations for investment and development of partnerships with public and/or private investors, and (v) technical assistance and training during the project’s implementation.
Consultancy for the identification of alternative livelihoods under FishCC ( 2018 - 2018 )
FishCC is a climate change adaptation project with a focus on natural resources and capacity building for poverty reduction. The overall objective of the FishCC project is to improve community management of selected priority fisheries.
This consultancy assignment under FishCC aims to identify sustainable livelihood alternatives to fishing activities in five pilot areas, with the following activities:
i) identification and formulation of sub-projects in aquaculture, tourism and agriculture, among others, for sustainable income generation in five pilot areas;
ii) preparation of the Sub-Projects Implementation Manual including the financing process;
iii) identification of potential business partners;
iv) facilitation of the establishment of partnerships between identified business partners and targeted communities.
Mission to identify the gas potential of the AGADEM block and its industrial applications ( 2019 - 2021 )
This study is carried out under the supervision of the Directorate-General for Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Petroleum.
Its objective is to determine if the gas from oil deposits located in two exclusive exploitation authorisation (EEA) zones awarded to the consortium led by the China National Petroleum Company NP, can be used for commercial purposes.
The assignment will aim to identify the gas potential on the two EEA awarded and on the possible third EEA requested by CNOC NP and, depending on the potential identified, will propose schemes for the commercial use of this gas.
Lenders’ Technical Advisor (LTA) for a PVC/PET and Caustic Soda Project ( 2019 - 2020 )
The LTA provided professional advice to the Lenders on the project in performing technical due diligence. The industrial complex consists of 6 main sections: the EDC/VCM plant, the PVC plant, the air separation plant, the ethylene terminal and cryogenic ethylene storage tank, the PET plant, and the caustic soda plant. During the review, the LTA reviewed key technical aspects, identified risk issues, and proposed an approach/mitigants to address these issues, where necessary.
Pakistan Sugar-Mills Resource Efficiency Project ( 2019 - 2020 )
Detailed diagnosis of the resource efficiency of two sugar mills in Pakistan to reduce energy and water use, minimise waste, and deploy climate-smart technologies, while strengthening their bottom lines.
The method to be applied is a comparative analysis using the industry’s best and average benchmarks and resulting in a quantification of the gaps in both physical and monetary terms. The analysis will be based on the data collected and processed, along with on-site visits, high-level balances and the Consultant’s experience and expertise.
Technical assistance to the Belize Shrimp Cluster for a biosecurity risk assessment and Biosecurity Aquaculture Zone Management Plan (BAZMP), and related capacity building ( 2019 - 2021 )
The main objective of this consultancy is to develop a Biosecurity Aquaculture Zone Management Plan (BAZMP) for Belizean shrimp growers and other key industry players, by first conducting a Biosecurity Risk Assessment to identify disease risks and gaps in biosecurity measures. The consultancy will also provide technical assistance to improve pathogen monitoring and surveillance, including a system/methodology for monitoring data collection and epidemiological data analysis, along with relevant staff training and recommendations for legislative changes.
Cement and Steel Sectors Competitiveness Study ( 2020 - 2020 )
This study aimed to examine the steel and cement sectors in Afghanistan with a particular focus on the competitiveness of production firms, their contribution to the country's economic growth, and obstacles to their development.
The information was gathered through questionnaires and interviews carried out with different actors of the sectors such as production factories, construction firms, importers/exporters, chambers of commerce and ministries.
The final report described the situation of both sectors and included recommendations for their future development.
Cambodian Rubber International Certificate Issuance and Commercialization Support ( 2005 - 2009 )
The main objective of this project is to increase income for all stakeholders in the Cambodian rubber commodity chain. It aims: (1) to reorganize the commodity chain to achieve better commercial equity between the different stakeholders; (2) to secure additional currency earnings for the country in order to rectify an estimated loss of 8 million dollars per year due to discounting of Cambodian natural rubber on the international market; (3) to ensure higher employment in the sector on both smallholdings and estates.
